Germany’s federal government has rolled out a new subsidy program for electric vehicles (EVs), providing financial incentives of up to €6,000 for private buyers. The initiative, funded by the Climate and Transformation Fund, allocates €3 billion through 2029 to accelerate the adoption of low-emission vehicles.

Subsidy Details and Eligibility

The program covers newly registered electric cars, plug-in hybrids, and range extenders in vehicle class M1, provided they meet specific emissions or range criteria. Pure electric vehicles qualify for a base subsidy of €3,000, while plug-in hybrids and range extenders receive €1,500. Additional bonuses are available based on income and family size.

Households with a taxable annual income below €60,000 receive an extra €1,000, and those earning under €45,000 get an additional €1,000. Families with children can claim €500 per child, up to a maximum of €1,000. The highest subsidy—€6,000—is reserved for low-income households with two children purchasing a fully electric car.
