Hamburg's environmental authority assumes, based on current knowledge, that the young wolf, which injured a woman in a shopping arcade in the Altona district in April, is likely dead.
Background: From city wolf to tagged animal
As a spokesperson for the authority announced on Friday, the available findings suggest that the animal is no longer alive. "Based on the available findings, the death of the animal is probable," he said. The NDR had previously reported on this.
The wolf, a young male, was released into the wild in the southern part of Hamburg in early April after being captured by the police following the incident in Altona and housed at a wildlife station in Sachsenhagen, Schaumburg district, Lower Saxony. Before being released, it was fitted with a transmitter whose data was automatically transmitted until the end of May. After that, contact was lost.
