A 23-year-old driver under the influence of intoxicating substances collided head-on with the oncoming car of a 38-year-old woman on the L5014 in the municipality of Eggelsberg (Braunau district) on Tuesday morning at around 8:45 a.m.; two women and a four-year-old child were injured.
For reasons still unclear, the cars of the 23-year-old and the 38-year-old collided head-on at around 8:45 a.m., police reported late in the afternoon. The accident occurred on the L5014 within the municipal area of Eggelsberg (Braunau district). The force of the collision was so severe that the 38-year-old's car was thrown over an embankment and only came to a stop about 30 meters further away in a meadow.
Course of the accident
The 38-year-old was able to free herself and her four-year-old son from the wreckage on her own. Police stated late in the afternoon that the woman and her child were taken to the LKH Salzburg hospital.
The 23-year-old was trapped in her badly damaged vehicle. A following truck driver showed civic courage: he freed the injured 23-year-old from her damaged vehicle and provided first aid until the emergency services arrived. The young woman was then airlifted by rescue helicopter to the UKH in Salzburg.
