Paris, July 12, 2026
Due to an extreme heatwave, numerous Paris tourist attractions such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre have shortened their opening hours, while the Tour de France shortened a stage for the first time in its history for weather reasons.
France is struggling under its third heatwave in two months. As the weather service Météo-France announced, the highest warning level Red was issued for 37 départements, and the second-highest level Orange for another 59 départements. This means more than a third of the French population is under a heat warning. The weather service Météo-France called for "absolute vigilance" due to the oppressive heat there.
Scale of the heatwave
In the French capital, the thermometer rose to nearly 37 degrees on Saturday. Especially in the center and in the west, temperatures will rise again well above 30 degrees. Only a few départements in the south of the country are spared from the current heatwave, which is expected to last until the middle of next week. On Sunday, the highest of a total of four heat warning levels is to apply in 13 additional départements.
