Wiesbaden, 06 July 2026
The Hessian state government intends to renovate a total of 450 kilometers of state roads by the year 2030 and, according to Transport Minister Kaweh Mansoori (SPD), is presenting a five-year program with 333 priority measures to achieve this.
Scope and Funding of the Program
A total of 383 million euros alone is earmarked for the 333 selected road renovations. Fully 97 percent of the funds for state roads will flow into the maintenance of existing routes. If the new five-year plan by SPD Transport Minister Kaweh Mansoori has its way, a total of 450 kilometers of this network will be renovated by 2030.
According to its own figures, Hesse plans to invest a total of 850 million euros in its state roads over the coming five years. Additional funds are added on top: because in the coming three years, an additional 140 million euros will supplement the road construction budget from the state budget. These are funds from the debt-financed federal infrastructure program, the so-called "Sondervermögen" (special fund). In addition, 177 million euros will go toward dilapidated bridges and other structures. The minister himself calculated the total investment sum at nearly one billion euros.
