Molfsee, 28 June 2026
A thatched-roof house in the Molfsee Open-Air Museum near Kiel, approximately 250 years old, burned down completely in the early hours of Sunday morning; police assume a lightning strike as the cause.
The fire broke out shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to the fire department. By the time the emergency services arrived, the historic building had already been fully engulfed in flames, it was said. Around 100 firefighters were deployed to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring structures. With the help of an excavator, the emergency crews also searched for remaining pockets of embers.
