Science Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ) announced a moderate increase in the university budget following discussions with senior representatives of the Universities Conference (uniko) and at the same time described repairing the fiscal legacy of previous years as a task for the federal government.
Science Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ) on Thursday signaled a "moderate" increase in the university budget following a meeting with the Universities Conference (uniko). The minister spoke of a mix of structural measures, relief, and growth that would, however, be modest given the overall austerity course, according to a press release.
Holzleitner emphasized that the current federal government must "das schwierige budgetäre Erbe der vergangenen Jahre sanieren". She also called on uniko to "gemeinsam an den zentralen Themen des Uni-Standorts zu arbeiten". Holzleitner further stated that, especially in challenging times, strategic foresight and shared responsibility were needed.
