Emergency Call Over the Lake

A hot air balloon shaped like a screwdriver lost altitude over Lake Zell on Saturday morning. As the Zell am See Water Rescue reported, the balloon pilot issued an emergency call at 8:46 a.m. after the aircraft had entered a descent over the water. Initially, it was unclear how many people were on board and whether other lake users were at risk.

A police boat reached the balloon, which was still just above the water's surface, and towed it by rope toward the shore. At the sports field, water rescue personnel assisted in the safe landing of the aircraft.

Rescue by Boat and Rope

In addition to the water rescue team, the fire department and police were also alerted. The simultaneous deployment of multiple rescue organizations demonstrates how quickly the alert chain responds in an emergency over the water at Lake Zell. The bathing season is the main operational period for the water rescue team – the region is prepared for such scenarios at this time.
