At the end of 2025, Germany had around 44.0 million dwellings, with the stock increasing by 196,000 units or 0.4 percent over the past year, as the Federal Statistical Office announced.

The housing stock in Germany has grown faster over the past ten years than the population. According to the Federal Statistical Office, "berichtete das Amt auf der Grundlage des fortgeschriebenen Mikrozensus 2022", the number of dwellings rose by around 6.0 percent since 2015, "sodass es zum Jahresende 2025 in Deutschland etwa 44,0 Millionen Wohnungen gab".

Population Growing More Slowly

Over the same period, the population grew by just 1.6 percent to 83.5 million people. "In den vergangenen zehn Jahren ist in Deutschland der Wohnungsbestand schneller gewachsen als die Bevölkerung", the agency's statement continued.
