Hundreds of passengers stranded for hours without air conditioning on a train in Brandenburg

As district fire chief Christian Reisinger reported, the fire brigade brought children, pregnant women, and elderly people out of the hot train, while the rest had to hold out there. In the train, where temperatures had reached around 40 degrees Celsius according to Reisinger, the emergency services screened the approximately 630 passengers. The emergency services opened the doors, having to saw away trees to do so.

After several hours, shortly before 11 p.m., a diesel locomotive arrived and towed the train to Karstädt. There, according to Reisinger, it became apparent that the journey could not continue. The emergency services set up an emergency shelter in a sports hall where the passengers could spend the night.

Evacuation and emergency shelter

„Es war eine ruhige Atmosphäre," Reisinger said. Children's beds, toys, and beer garden table sets were brought in. Three people were taken to hospital with circulatory problems. One person was taken from there to hospital with circulatory problems; others were picked up by acquaintances, and some others were picked up by acquaintances during the night.

The „Märkische Allgemeine" first reported the incident. In the morning, buses brought the approximately 500 people to the train station in Karstädt, according to Reisinger, where they were able to continue their journey on two ICE trains.

Another incident in Gransee

At the same time on Saturday afternoon, passengers on a regional train in Gransee (Oberhavel district) also became stranded. At one point, 70 passengers got off the train on the open track. The people had to endure two to three hours without air conditioning before the technical defect was repaired and the train continued its journey, the Federal Police reported.
