Police investigation result

Investigations by police have traced the fire at the commercial waste sorting facility in Steyr back to an improperly disposed battery. As the authorities announced on Sunday, the cause of the fire is therefore clearly established.

According to the authorities, around 100 firefighters were required for the operation. They fought the flames in the facility and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent areas. As of now, no one was injured.

Police ruled out both a technical defect and third-party involvement as the cause. A spokesperson said: "Ein technisches Problem und Fremdverschulden seien als Brandursache eindeutig ausgeschlossen worden." It is therefore certain that the battery triggered the major fire.
