At the Parisian auction house Hôtel Drouot, a handbag made from lab-reconstructed cells of a Tyrannosaurus rex will be auctioned this evening.

The auction house Giquello is organizing the sale of this extraordinary luxury accessory in Paris. The simple black bag was already presented in Amsterdam in the spring; now the hammer will fall at the Hôtel Drouot. Giquello estimates the market value of the piece at 300,000 to 500,000 euros.

From Fossil to Collagen

What makes the material special: According to the information provided, it comes from a Tyrannosaurus rex that went extinct 67 million years ago. The cell culture was reportedly grown in the lab on the basis of collagen remnants adhering to a femur of the animal. The bone had been found 25 years ago in the US state of Montana.
