An Iranian court has acquitted well-known film star Pejman Dschamschidi (48) of rape charges but sentenced him to 99 lashes for an "illicit relationship," according to the Iranian news agency Fars, citing his defense.
Following the verdict, Dschamschidi can appeal to the Supreme Court, according to his defense. As the Iranian news agency Fars reported, citing his defense, the court sentenced the actor to 99 lashes for an "illicit relationship" without sexual intercourse. A statement from the judiciary was not initially available.
In October, a young actress initially filed an anonymous complaint against the film star. The well-known film star was briefly detained but left the country when he was released on bail. He consistently denied the allegations. As part of the nationwide debate, the plaintiff subsequently addressed the public some time later.
