Washington, June 4, 2026

Israel and Lebanon have agreed on the "implementation of a ceasefire" during talks in Washington under US mediation, which has been in effect since April 17 and is now to be underpinned by concrete steps.

Conditions of the Agreement

The agreement was announced overnight in a joint statement released in the US capital, the US State Department said. According to the statement, representatives of both governments agreed on a path to "implement a ceasefire" that is tied to clear conditions. This followed the fourth round of direct political talks between Israeli and Lebanese government representatives, which have been taking place since April – the first direct contacts at this level since 1983.
