A study by IW Consult on behalf of eco – Verband der Internetwirtschaft shows that 40 percent of the German economy uses artificial intelligence – and that adoption has risen by 118 percent since 2024.

For the representative study on AI usage figures, IW Consult surveyed 500 companies in Germany, with the data weighted by company size. IW Consult GmbH is a private research and consulting firm based in Cologne, a 100-percent subsidiary of the Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft (IW). The survey was conducted on behalf of eco – Verband der Internetwirtschaft e.V.

40 percent of the German economy already uses artificial intelligence (AI), as the study shows. At the same time: 60 percent of German companies do not yet use AI at all. A breakdown by company size shows that mid-market companies have caught up: Even in small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, the usage rate is now close to 40 percent. The study's authors record an increase of 118 percent since 2024.
