The Japanese space agency Jaxa carried out an initial launch and landing test with its reusable prototype rocket RV-X at the Noshiro rocket test site in Akita Prefecture on July 11 and reported that it was completed successfully.
According to the Japan Times, which cites information from the Japanese space agency Jaxa, the rocket lifted off at the Noshiro test site and landed back at the facility after roughly 40 seconds. During the brief trial, the RV-X reached an altitude of about ten meters, according to Jaxa.
The test was a comparatively low and short flight, similar to those conducted by the US company SpaceX about 13 years ago with earlier prototypes. At that time, SpaceX later began regular flights of reusable rockets. Since 2017, the company has regularly launched the reusable Falcon 9 rocket, whose most-used booster has already lifted off 36 times recently, according to the company.
