US Vice President JD Vance acknowledged errors by the US government in handling the investigation files related to Jeffrey Epstein during an appearance on the podcast 'The Joe Rogan Experience', while simultaneously rejecting the allegation of a deliberate cover-up.

Speaking with Joe Rogan, Vance said his government had 'completely botched' the communication surrounding the Epstein files. He added, however: 'But do I think we botched it because we were trying to hide something? No.' The remarks are part of an ongoing debate over the US government's handling of the released investigation documents.

Vance explained that the communication problems stemmed from false claims circulated in advance. As an example, he cited a previous statement by the then-Attorney General Pam Bondi. She had said that a client list of the sex offender was sitting on her desk.

Background: The Epstein Scandal

The release of the statutorily mandated investigation files fell within Bondi's area of responsibility. Critics had alleged that the redacted passages in the documents protected not only victims but also alleged accomplices. This allegation was rejected by the government.

The scandal returned to the headlines after the files were released. US President Donald Trump had fired Pam Bondi from her position in early April. The background was apparently the US government's effort to keep the scandal as far away from Trump as possible.
