The media authority KommAustria awarded on Wednesday the quality journalism funding for the year 2026 in the amount of 20 million euros, approving a total of 191 applications from 94 funding applicants.
The decisions are available from now on the Open Data platform of the Rundfunk- und Telekom-Regulierungs-GmbH (RTR). According to the information provided, the budgeted funds were fully exhausted. The funding is legally endowed with 20 million euros per year and serves to support high-quality journalistic offerings.
Among the largest recipients this year are KURIER and Kleine Zeitung, each receiving around 1.3 million euros. "Die Presse" is funded with approximately 800,000 euros. The distribution follows a recommendation of the expert panel, which evaluated the submitted projects based on the legal criteria.
