Roth, July 5, 2026
French triathlete Sam Laidlow won the men's race at the Challenge Roth in Middle Franconia on Sunday, setting a new long-distance world record with 7:21:04 hours.
The 27-year-old needed 7:21:04 hours for the 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling, and the concluding marathon of 42.195 kilometers, beating the previous record set by Norway's Kristian Blummenfelt at Ironman Texas in April by 20 seconds.
Blummenfelt, who had been considered the favorite in his first start in Roth, fought his way back to second place after a chase and reached the finish with a deficit of 5:20 minutes.
Laidlow, who had entered the race as the defending champion, confirmed his exceptional status in long-distance triathlon.
