Defending cup holder LASK won the first round of the ÖFB Cup 7:0 (1:0) at Regionalliga side SV Kalsdorf, while title contender Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a 7:1 (3:1) thrashing at third-tier side SV Oberwart on the competitive debut of new head coach Danny Röhl.
Duty fulfilled: LASK advances to round two with ease
LASK handled their obligatory task in the ÖFB Cup with composure. At Regionalliga side SV Kalsdorf, the Austrian cup holders ran out 7:0 (1:0) winners, advancing to the second round without any difficulty. After a sluggish first half, the Linz side shifted up several gears after the break and turned the match into a one-sided affair.
The deadlock was broken just before the interval by defender Andres Andrade, who headed in the 1:0 lead from a corner (40'). The Panamanian, who is part of the new squad, took his first chance and gave the game its decisive turning point. "Wir haben die Pflicht erfüllt", the team summed up the task afterwards in brief fashion.
