Course of events on the Fuchslochsteig

A hiking trip on the Rax ended in shock for two Hungarian hikers on Sunday: shortly before 2 p.m., the two 25-year-olds were struck by lightning at around 1,883 meters above sea level. As police reported on Monday, the lightning "in unmittelbarer Nähe eingeschlagen haben dürfte, vermutet die Polizei."

The two Hungarians had begun their hike to the Heukappe of the Rax at 11 a.m. from the Almgasthof Moassa and ascended via the so-called "Fuchslochsteig" toward the high plateau. "Zweieinhalb Stunden später zog ein starkes Gewitter mit Windböen und Starkregen aus Nordwest auf." Weather services had forecast a change of sunny intervals and partly heavy rain showers with thunderstorms for this day.
