Kals am Großglockner, 07 July 2026
Two Czech alpinists, a 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, got into an alpine emergency situation over the weekend on the Großglockner and were rescued by the Kals mountain rescue service after spending a night in an emergency bivouac at around 3,700 metres above sea level.
According to police reports, the man had placed an emergency call via his mobile phone at 7:45 a.m. on 6 July 2026. At that point, the two were already in a precarious situation high up on the mountain.
The alpinists had set off early on Sunday morning to ascend via the "Stüdlgrat" towards the Großglockner. In the early afternoon, they reached the so-called "Frühstücksplatzl" at an altitude of 3,550 metres.
