Background of the stopover
The aircraft was on its way from South Africa to Germany when the crew noticed the unusual odor on board. For safety reasons, those responsible decided to interrupt the planned route and head for the nearest suitable airport. The crew chose Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo as the location for the unscheduled landing.
