The Salzburg swimmer Luka Mladenovic won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Paris, celebrating a sporting highlight in his career.

Already after his race, Mladenovic was visibly moved. In a conversation with the APA, he spoke openly about the significance of the moment and the tension of the past weeks. „Ich habe lange auf diese Medaille hingearbeitet, und jetzt hier in Paris zu stehen, ist einfach unglaublich“, said he. The appearance in front of a home crowd – the event is being held in the French capital – gave the success additional weight.

For Austrian swimming, the bronze medal is another positive signal following a series of international appearances in recent years. At the European Championships two years earlier in Belgrade, Austria already had reason to celebrate: Felix Auböck secured gold in the 400 m freestyle, ending the country's 16-year drought at these championships. The 4x100 m medley relay team with Bernhard Reitshammer, Valentin Bayer, Simon Bucher and Heiko Gigler also won gold back then.
