The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 13 kilometers below the seabed, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the University of Athens. The Institute noted that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 13 kilometers. This makes it a shallower event, which is generally felt more strongly at the Earth's surface than deeper tremors.
As the Geodynamic Institute in Athens reported, the quake occurred at a depth of 13 kilometers. The tremor was also clearly felt on the popular holiday island of Rhodes and in the east of Crete, local media reported on Thursday. The earthquake was also perceptible on the small neighboring island of Kassos as well as on the west coast of Turkey.
