On the evening of July 18, 2026, a straw storage facility containing several hundred bales caught fire and was fully engulfed at the Mitterhof in the Lower Austrian municipality of Wildendürnbach (Mistelbach district) from a cause that has not yet been determined.

As the Mistelbach District Fire Command announced, the emergency services were alerted at 8:22 p.m. to the major fire at the Mitterhof in the municipal area of Wildendürnbach. Alert level B3 was already triggered at the time of the alarm. Since the fire spread rapidly within just a few minutes, the alert level had to be raised after a short time to the highest level, B4. The straw storage facility caught fire at around 8:00 p.m. from a cause that remains unknown.
