Major Fire at Mitterhof in Wildendürnbach: Straw Storage with Several Hundred Bales Destroyed

In total, ten fire departments with 23 vehicles were deployed to fight the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. The firefighting efforts focused on containing the further spread of the blaze and protecting adjacent areas. The straw storage facility with several hundred bales burned out completely, according to the fire department.

Situation directly at the Mitterhof

Danger to buildings and animals averted The residential building located approximately 500 meters away, as well as the animals of the agricultural operation, were never at risk. As the fire department further reported, the cattle of the breeding operation also remained unharmed. Due to the significant distance and the targeted deployment of the firefighting forces, a spread to the residential house and stables was successfully prevented.

The exact cause of the fire remains unclear according to the emergency services. Investigations into the cause of the fire have been initiated, with initial results not yet available the following day. The police will examine the scene following the firefighting operations in order to gather evidence on the origin of the fire.

Cause still unclear

The Mitterhof is located in the northern Weinviertel region of Lower Austria, near the border with the Czech Republic. The municipality of Wildendürnbach belongs to the Mistelbach district. The fire site is characterized by agricultural use, and the surrounding fields and farm structures were spared from the flames, according to the fire department.

There were no injuries according to current findings. The Mistelbach District Fire Command was initially unable to provide information on the amount of property damage. The destroyed straw bales represent a significant economic loss for the agricultural operation, as the straw is needed, among other things, for bedding and as supplementary feed.

Significant property damage for the operation

The emergency services did not stand down until late in the evening, after the straw storage facility had burned down in a controlled manner and embers had been extinguished. Mop-up operations lasted several hours, as the bales kept reigniting.

The Mistelbach District Fire Command thanked all participating fire departments for the smooth execution of the major operation. The coordination between the ten departments from the region functioned seamlessly under the conditions of a B4 major fire.
