Wildendürnbach, July 19, 2026

A straw storage facility with hundreds of bales caught fire on Saturday evening at a cattle farm in the municipality of Wildendürnbach in the district of Mistelbach in Lower Austria.

As the Mistelbach district fire brigade command reported, the fire broke out at around 8:00 p.m. from a cause that is still unknown. Within just a few minutes, the blaze spread so rapidly that the alarm level had to be raised to the highest level, B4.

Due to the large quantity of stored straw bales, all remaining embers had to be exposed and completely extinguished during the night into Sunday. An end to the firefighting operations was still not in sight by Sunday morning, as the bales kept reigniting.
