Major Fire in Matrei in Osttirol: 170 Firefighters Deployed

The personnel worked under partly difficult conditions to bring the fire under control. In addition to the immediate firefighting efforts, their main focus was on protecting adjacent buildings and preventing the flames from spreading to neighboring areas.

The exact cause of the fire was initially the subject of ongoing investigations. The Lienz District Fire Brigade Association referred to the ongoing operation report. Regarding possible injuries or the amount of property damage, the personnel made no further statements at the time of the report.

The fire brigades from the Lienz district are networked across the East Tyrol region for major operations. In the case of major fires, fire brigades from multiple communities are routinely called out simultaneously, as was also the case in the current operation in Matrei.

After the extinguishing operations were completed, the follow-up of the operation began. The firefighters checked for hotspots and secured the fire site to prevent reignition. This phase typically lasts several hours.

Residents in Matrei and the surrounding area took notice of the operation. There were isolated traffic disruptions caused by arriving emergency vehicles. The district fire brigade command appealed to the public to give the operation site a wide berth.
