After several shots were fired in an apartment in Regensdorf in the canton of Zurich on Tuesday morning, the Zurich cantonal police deployed a major force, cordoned off a wide area, and arrested a suspected perpetrator.
Shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning, an emergency call was received by the cantonal police. At 4:15 a.m., residents contacted the Zurich cantonal police to report hearing several shots. A major deployment of the cantonal police was immediately initiated and the area was cordoned off over a wide perimeter.
As the Zurich cantonal police reported, the response units immediately moved out and also heard shots. The police located the suspected shooter's apartment and were briefly in contact with him.
Large-scale operation involving special units
According to the cantonal police, several officers took up positions around the affected property wearing protective helmets and carrying submachine guns. The Regensdorf fire brigade was also called in to redirect traffic.
Shortly before 9 a.m., he was [the situation was] restored, as the cantonal police wrote. However, it [the contact] had been interrupted in the meantime. The person then left the apartment and was taken into custody without resistance.
