Márquez celebrates tenth Sachsenring victory and equals Agostini's record

With his tenth victory at a single race track, Márquez drew level with legend Giacomo Agostini in the premier class. The Italian had triumphed ten times at Imatra in Finland during the 1960s and 1970s – nine times in succession between 1965 and 1973, plus one more time in 1975. This best mark had stood for 41 years.

In the fight for the world championship, Márquez reduced his deficit to Martin to 18 points. At one point, the defending champion had trailed the leader by 102 points. With 190 points now, Márquez jumped two positions to third in the overall standings ahead of the four-week summer break.

The previous best mark of 256,441 from the year before was clearly surpassed at the circuit near Hohenstein-Ernstthal, and the 260,000 mark was broken for the first time.

Upper Austrian Leo Rammerstorfer narrowly missed a championship point, finishing 16th. In Moto3, Márquez had previously been successful four times before moving up to MotoGP and beginning his winning streak at the Sachsenring.
