Weimar, September 3, 2026
The foreign ministers of Germany, France and Poland met in Weimar on Thursday to discuss hybrid threats, support for Ukraine and the future dialogue with Russia.
The meeting in Weimar built on the trilateral format between Berlin, Paris and Warsaw that has been in place since 2024. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul hosted his counterparts from France and Poland, including French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. The talks focused on coordinating the further approach toward Moscow as well as supporting Kyiv in its ongoing defense against Russia's war of aggression.
At the joint press conference, Wadephul underlined Germany's fundamental willingness to engage in dialogue with Russia. "Man sei immer zum vernünftigen Dialog mit Russland bereit gewesen", he said. The prerequisite, however, was the end of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and that Russia "alle Attacken jeder Art gegen uns und unsere Verbündeten unterlässt".
