Miedler and Cabral advance to the Wimbledon men's doubles round of 16

Match with a turning point

With their advancement to the round of 16, Miedler and Cabral have achieved the best doubles result of the tournament from an Austrian-Portuguese perspective. The duo is among the few remaining seeded pairings in this section of the draw.

Buse and Trungelliti, an unseeded pair, had surprisingly reached the third round and had caused a stir earlier in the tournament. Against the experience and well-drilled combination of Miedler/Cabral, however, they could find no answer in the deciding set.

For Miedler, who also competed in singles at Wimbledon, this is already the second Grand Slam tournament this season in which he has progressed past the third round in doubles. Cabral, a Portuguese doubles specialist, brings experience from numerous ATP events.

Next opponent still to be decided

In the round of 16, Miedler and Cabral now face an as-yet undetermined opponent. The duo will meet the winner of a match that has yet to be played, giving them the advantage of being able to study their upcoming opponent's style of play.

The match took place on one of the outside courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and lasted around an hour and a half. Conditions on the grass are considered demanding, as the wet turf makes ball control more difficult.

Significance for the rankings

With this success, Miedler and Cabral have consolidated their position in the doubles world rankings. The points earned for the ATP doubles standings are particularly important for qualifying for the upcoming Masters tournaments.

The duo have thus qualified for their next assignment on Sunday or Monday. Should they also win their round-of-16 match, they would climb into the top eight doubles pairings of the tournament and reach the quarterfinals.
