The state government of Baden-Württemberg is examining whether so-called Monocams – cameras that detect mobile phone use at the wheel – should be deployed in the southwest.
The Greens and CDU have agreed in their coalition agreement to examine the use of the technology. A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry in Stuttgart explained that the examination would also clarify what legal basis would be necessary for its use in the state. He stated verbatim: "In the coalition agreement between the Greens and the CDU, both parties agreed that the use of the technology should be examined." This means the examination is explicitly open-ended, with no specific start date planned.
