India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a swift end to the Ukraine war at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek and at the same time held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit brought numerous bilateral encounters on the margins of the conference. Modi used his trip to Kyrgyzstan to draw attention to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. According to Indian government sources, he stressed in talks the need for an early peace and pointed to the humanitarian consequences for the civilian population.
The Kremlin also confirmed a meeting between Putin and Modi on the sidelines of the summit. Kremlin spokesman Peskov said the two sides had discussed bilateral cooperation as well as international issues. Further details of the talks were not initially made public.
