In Germany, the number of e-scooters is rising, while rental offerings are declining and accidents with the small electric vehicles have nearly doubled compared to 2022.
Growing Prevalence, Fewer Rental Offerings
The number of e-scooters in Germany continues to grow according to the German Insurance Association (Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft, GDV), while the number of rental devices in cities is falling. The association cites figures from the Federal Statistical Office and sees the development as a growing challenge for traffic safety.
At the same time, Anja Käfer-Rohrbach of the GDV emphasizes that with the rising number of vehicles, clear rules and considerate coexistence in road traffic are also gaining importance. "Mit der wachsenden Zahl der Fahrzeuge steigt aber auch die Bedeutung klarer Regeln und eines rücksichtsvollen Miteinanders im Straßenverkehr", she stated.
