A mountaineer fell around 100 meters to his death in the afternoon in the Pitztal while ascending to the Braunschweiger Hütte and died at the accident site.

A fatal mountaineering accident occurred in the afternoon during the ascent to the Braunschweiger Hütte in the Pitztal. As the emergency services report, the mountaineer deviated from the route for reasons that remain unclear and fell around 100 meters. Any help came too late for him.

His companion, who had to watch the fall, was cared for at the accident site by the alerted rescue teams. She was making the ascent together with the victim when, "ohne erkennbare äußere Einwirkung," he lost his footing and slid downward. The woman was unable to prevent the fall and apparently remained uninjured.
