A 68-year-old alpinist was swept away by a boulder and killed on Wednesday at the Hohe Wand in South Tyrol.

According to the emergency services, the accident occurred in the area around the Hohe Wand in South Tyrol. The woman was on an alpine route together with a companion when the fatal incident took place. Despite rapid assistance, the alpinist could only be recovered dead.

The boulder dragged the 68-year-old into the depths. How exactly the rock came loose is the subject of the ongoing investigation. Police and mountain rescue were deployed after the accident. The public prosecutor's office was also involved, as is customary in deaths occurring in alpine terrain.
