Highest Warning Level for 14 Municipalities
The Japanese weather agency issued the highest warning level for 14 municipalities in Chiba Prefecture, warning of flooding and landslides. It did so in response to the massive rainfall that came down across the Tokyo region, causing rivers to overflow and slopes to give way within a short period of time.
According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, the severe weather claimed several lives. Rescue forces were deployed on a large scale to evacuate residents from flooded neighborhoods and search for those who had been buried. Local broadcasters, including NHK, reported on rescue operations in affected neighborhoods.
