General Christopher Donahue, Commander of the US Army in Europe and Africa, is handing over his post in Wiesbaden after just 18 months – ahead of schedule – to his deputy Christopher R. Norrie, only a few days after his final public appearance in Estonia.
General Christopher Donahue, Commander of the US Army in Europe and Africa, is leaving his post in Wiesbaden ahead of schedule. As US media reports indicate, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the change directly. At the same time, the position was downgraded as part of a review of the US military presence in Europe. Hegseth also blocked efforts to place Donahue in other top positions.
The 56-year-old is handing over command in Wiesbaden to his deputy Christopher R. Norrie. The change-of-command ceremony was planned for Thursday. His departure brings to a close a brief yet significant phase for alliance defense at the helm of the US land forces on the European continent.
