Ankara, July 5, 2026
At the NATO Summit on July 7 and 8 in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is hosting 32 heads of state and government of the Western defense alliance and presenting Turkey as a strategically indispensable power within the alliance.
Police Operation and Security Measures
The summit is taking place at the presidential palace in Ankara, which Erdogan had built for himself. Tens of thousands of police officers have been deployed to the capital, and air defense is on heightened alert. In the run-up, demonstrations were banned, websites blocked, and hundreds of people were arrested or are being sought with arrest warrants, including government-critical journalists and activists.
