Neunkirchen, June 1, 2026
In the municipal council election in Neunkirchen on May 31, 2026, the ÖVP with 31.65 percent and the SPÖ with 31.47 percent delivered a neck-and-neck race, while the FPÖ had to accept significant losses.
According to the preliminary final result, the People's Party achieved 1,571 votes and thus 12 mandates, while the Social Democrats came in with 1,559 votes and also 12 seats. The gap between the two strongest factions was only nine votes after the election result was corrected.
The FPÖ landed in third place with 19.13 percent and lost considerable support compared to the 2025 election. It will now have seven councilors instead of the previous nine. The list "Wir für Neunkirchen" (We for Neunkirchen), which ran for the first time and was founded by former FPÖ councilors including Deputy Mayor Marcus Berlosnig, immediately secured 8.93 percent and three mandates.
