In the murder case of former British minister Ann Widdecombe, a new suspect has been arrested after a previously detained 26-year-old was released.
Arrest and course of the investigation so far
Devon and Cornwall Police announced on Saturday that a 28-year-old British citizen had been arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday evening in the county of South Yorkshire. The man is in custody, the force added. With this development, there is now a new suspect in the case of Ann Widdecombe's death, while the investigation continues.
Widdecombe was found dead on Thursday in her home in Dartmoor in the county of Devon. According to police information released on Friday, the 78-year-old had sustained serious injuries. The exact circumstances of her death and any possible motive have not been made public so far.
Police had previously arrested a 26-year-old who had been taken into custody following the killing. That man was released again on Saturday, as Devon and Cornwall Police announced. He is no longer being investigated in connection with Widdecombe's death.
