Mallorca, September 5, 2026

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has accepted a one-month suspension from the International Tennis Integrity Association (ITIA) after testing positive for cocaine at the tournament in Mallorca.

According to the ITIA, the disciplinary measure was imposed by the responsible sports chamber and accepted by Kyrgios without objection. The Tennis Anti-Doping Code ordinarily provides for a three-month suspension for a positive cocaine finding. Because Kyrgios voluntarily committed to a treatment program, the sanction was reduced to one month.

The Australian had already shown remorse shortly after the incident became known. He said: "Ich habe einen großen Fehler gemacht und übernehme dafür die volle Verantwortung." He also stated: "Von mir selbst zutiefst enttäuscht." With his swift statement, the professional sought to prevent a longer ban and further damage to his image.
