Austria's Directorate for State Protection and Intelligence Service (DSN) sees, based on the current state of knowledge, no connection between the suspected attacker of Berlin's Christopher Street Day, Abdul B., and the Islamist scene in Austria.
On Saturday, a man identified as Abdul B. attacked a crowd at Berlin's Christopher Street Day with a vehicle. German authorities are investigating an Islamist motive. On Sunday, it became known that, according to the ruling of the Tiergarten local court, there is a possible link to Austria – specifically a time-limited Islamic marriage to a woman from Salzburg.
On Tuesday, Sylvia Mayer, head of the DSN, stated in the Ö1-Morgenjournal that Austrian authorities currently see no connection to the Islamist scene in Austria. She said verbatim: "Wir sehen aktuell keine Verbindung zur islamistischen Szene in Österreich." She thereby contradicted media-circulated speculation about possible networks.
