Innsbruck, 18 July 2026
Due to construction work on the Italian side, long-distance rail service over the Brenner Pass has been suspended since Saturday for two weeks; replacement buses are running between Innsbruck and Bolzano.
Since Saturday, passengers on the Brenner railway line have been facing significant restrictions. As the federal railways announced, construction work on the Italian side means that "die Fernverkehrszüge zwischen Innsbruck und Bozen bis 1. August nicht fahren können". As a result, all five daily connections on this route are cancelled.
Rerouting via the Tauern route
Already on Friday, two of the five daily connections were affected. The Austrian railway company ÖBB responded to the disruption with a large-scale rerouting: "Einzelne Fernverkehrszüge werden zudem laut Bahn bereits ab/bis Wörgl Hauptbahnhof großräumig über die Tauernstrecke und Tarvisio umgeleitet."
