Nova Rock 2026: 215,000 Visitors at a Peaceful Festival Weekend

Tatar also announced at the closing press conference that the German band Die Ärzte will perform at Nova Rock 2027. He pointed to the rush surrounding The Cure: "Etwa 3.000 bis 4.000 Besucherinnen und Besucher seien extra für die britische Rock-Wave-Band angereist," Tatar estimated. Nevertheless, the average daily attendance was only at the previous year's level.

Overall, the audience numbers were "eine Spur geringer als das letztes Jahr," said Tatar. Ticket sales in 2025 had been given an additional boost primarily by interest in Linkin Park. For the current edition, Tatar cited The Cure as the main audience magnet.

Challenges for the Future

At the same time, the festival director warned of structural changes in the festival business. "Die ganz großen Bands werden weniger. Darum wird sich das Nova Rock sukzessive ein bisschen verändern müssen, dass möglicherweise an einem Tag oder vielleicht sogar zwei Tagen ein Speerspitzen-Headliner fehlen könnte," Tatar explained. He went on to say: "Dass sich die Speerspitzen auf die Stadien konzentrieren und Festivals eher seltener spielen. Darum muss man für einen sehr starken Unterbau sorgen."

Emergency services were likewise satisfied with the weekend. The Burgenland Red Cross spoke of a "very quiet festival." "Aus Sicht des Roten Kreuzes war das Nova Rock 2026 ein sehr ruhiges Festival. Die Besucherinnen und Besucher zeigten sich über das gesamte Wochenende hinweg diszipliniert und rücksichtsvoll," said Harald Haselbauer, head of the operations staff of the Burgenland Red Cross.

Emergency Services and Departures

By Sunday morning, 1,420 fans had received medical care. Over the entire weekend, the Red Cross counted around 1,800 treatments. 89 people had to be taken to a hospital for further evaluation. The crisis intervention team was deployed for psychosocial support in 20 cases, and was called out in 14 of them. In one case, air rescue was requested; in another, a person had accidentally locked themselves inside their own car and had to be freed.

The Burgenland police spoke of a "very quiet" festival weekend without "any notable traffic jams." The automobile club ÖAMTC, which, as in the previous year, handled more than 300 callouts, was most frequently called for accidentally locked vehicles. In one case, ÖAMTC provided a band with a club mobile after their vehicle had been damaged.

To close out the festival, only two stages were still in operation on Sunday evening: the Blue Stage and the Red Bull Stage. On the Blue Stage, British band Bring Me The Horizon performed as headliner. Singer Oli Sykes sang, shouted, and egged on the audience, which loudly sang along to the choruses. The show was staged with streamers, fire columns, columns of smoke, and pyrotechnics. On the Red Bull Stage, US band All Them Witches played; they had recently released the album "House Of Mirrors."

The departure had already begun on Sunday midday, with tents being busily packed up at the campsite. According to ÖAMTC, around a third of festival guests had already started their journey home by Monday night. The emergency services expected the heaviest departure traffic in the night leading into Monday. By Monday morning, the departure was proceeding with only minor delays on the arterial roads.
