The mobile operator O2 Telefónica is planning to cut more than 1,000 positions in Germany, according to informed circles, responding to a significant decline in operating earnings as well as changed market conditions.
Scale of the Job Cuts
The plans envision cutting roughly every sixth or seventh position at Telefónica Deutschland. This represents a substantial share of the workforce and would be one of the largest cuts in the corporate history of the German subsidiary of the Spanish Telefónica Group. According to informed circles, more than 1,000 positions are to be eliminated.
In January of this year, the company reported 6,820 positions, according to its own figures. Should the now-announced job cuts be implemented in full, headcount would drop significantly below 5,800. According to information from the Verdi trade union, Telefónica Deutschland plans to spend around 100 million euros less.
