Ofner loses in Cincinnati qualifying and extends losing streak

A slump in form that came as no surprise

The misery is all the more remarkable given that Ofner had repeatedly drawn attention to himself in recent seasons with solid performances on the ATP Tour. Now there are growing signs that the 27-year-old, following a period of consistency, has slipped into a noticeable form trough from which he has so far been unable to find a way out.

From a sporting perspective, Ofner therefore remains outside the top bracket of placements for now – the kind that would earn him a seeding in the main draw of the major tournaments. The coming weeks will show whether the break between tournaments will be enough to recover the necessary freshness and confidence for a fresh start.

In parallel with the men's qualifying, the women's events also continued in Cincinnati on Tuesday. There, Claire Liu, among others, played her matches, while Anastasia Potapova was also in the main draw – both results faded into the background because Ofner's elimination directly affects the Austrian tennis scene.
