Austrian tennis player Sebastian Ofner was eliminated in the first round of qualifying for the Masters-1000 tournament in Montreal on Saturday.

Sebastian Ofner, an Austrian player ranked outside the direct entry cut-off for the Montreal Masters-1000 event, was eliminated in his opening qualifying match on Saturday. According to a wire report carried by APA, the Styrian native could not progress past the first qualifying round and will not feature in the main draw of the Canadian hard-court tournament.

Qualifying format and what was at stake

The qualifying stage at Masters-1000 events brings together players just outside the top tier of the ATP rankings, offering them a narrow path into the main draw through two or three rounds, depending on the size of the draw. For Ofner, the campaign ended at the earliest possible stage, with no opportunity to accumulate ranking points or match wins on the North American summer swing.
