Cincinnati, August 12, 2026

Austrian tennis player Sebastian Ofner from Styria has been eliminated in the first round of qualifying at the Masters tournament in Cincinnati by Argentina's Marco Trungelliti.

For Ofner, who is based in Kitzbühel, the North American swing has thus proven disappointing at its second stop as well. After his first-round qualifying defeat at the Masters tournament in Montreal the previous week, the Austrian now also suffered an early exit in Cincinnati. "Für Ofner ist es nach Montreal in der Vorwoche die zweite Auftaktniederlage in der Qualifikation eines Master-Turniers," was the assessment from the reporting on the match.

Ofner, who regularly relies on Grand Slam and Masters events on the ATP Tour, had hoped to book his place in the Cincinnati main draw through qualifying. The tournament in the U.S. state of Ohio is one of the most important hard-court events of the season and is considered one of the last major hardcourt tests before the US Open in New York. With another first-round exit, the Styrian misses the chance to gain further match practice against top players on the road to New York.
